Chinese smartphone maker Doogee is introducing its latest smartphone that aims to deliver solid smartphone performance in a body tough as nails. Dubbed S90 Pro the smartphone packs IP68, IP69K and MIL-STD-810G ingress protection as well as several modular accessories including a battery add-on and night camera module as well as a walkie-talkie add-on. Durability of S90 Pro

The rugged S90 is rated at IP68 / IP69K which means that in addition to being dust proof.

Doogee claims the phone can survive up to two weeks when submerged in water deep up to 1.5m. In addition, the metal and polycarbonate build of the S90 Pro ensure the device can survive drops, extreme temperatures, and even salt spray corrosion.

Design

Its 6.18 inch FHD Gorilla Glass 4 screen has 2246 x 1080px at 403 ppi, a minimal bezel and, usefully, the touch screen will work if you are wearing gloves.

Its dimensions are 168.5 x 80.7 x 14.1 mm and it weighs 300g – not as heavy as the S80 which weighs 398g, but the S90 pro base unit is still heavy in my bag.

The front notch of S90 pro houses the 8MP F/2.0 super-wide selfie cam. Besides, around the back, the phone features a 16+8MP dual rear camera setup with dual-LED flashes and a fingerprint reader.

Modules

There is an additional 5,000mAh battery attaches to the back of the phone magnetically, connects to the contact pins and increases the battery capacity to 10,050mAh.

Other optional modules to easily be attached to the phone. However, currently available is a night vision camera, and a digital walkie-talkie with 400-480MHz range.

Facial recognition is fast and the fingerprint sensor is good, and you can still unlock the device using the rear fingerprint sensor when any of the modules in the back of the phone.

As in previous Doogee models like the S80 and the S70 phones, there is a really useful ToolBag set of icons like a compass, gradient checker, and picture hanging tool.

There is also a customisable red-edged button on the left hand side of the phone. This can be configured to send an SOS, switch to game mode, start sound recording, switch on the flashlight, take a screenshot, or open the water camera.

If you enable the SOS function, pressing the custom button for five seconds will activate a call for help. Furthermore, it will send a customised text message, including your longitude and latitude as well as the town or area you are in.
